More about the full scheme...

This 25 x 1 hour English Scheme of Work is written for Years 5 and 6 (age 9-11) . All Learning Intentions come from the National Curriculum for Reading, Writing, Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation for Upper Key Stage 2. During this unit, the children have two extended writing tasks: • Journalistic Writing • Poetry

Many grammar objectives are also covered throughout the scheme. These include single and plural apostrophes (including collective nouns), how to write and integrate direct speech (through the form of quotations), the importance of using the correct tense, using powerful verbs and applying time conjunctions. In addition to this, the scheme also covers many reading objectives, including providing reasoned justifications for views, inference around character behaviours and motives, summarising, participating in book discussions, the impact of figurative language, performance poetry and identifying the meaning of words in context. This scheme of work will save teachers a lot of time! Each resource you will need for the whole five weeks is provided within the scheme. This includes differentiated activities, posters for the Working Wall, success criteria checklists and high-quality written examples of extended writing expectations. Finally, all resource illustrations are hand-drawn to engage the children further.
