This week's Bookshelf Best is Tom Percival's debut middle grade novel, The Wrong Shoes. This a story about Will, a child who doesn’t have the luxury of three meals a day, a nice warm house to come home to, shoes which fit him or even stop water coming in from the bottom. The reader soon gets to know Will and admires his boundless positivity despite the daily challenges he faces. Which is why you’ll be bighting your fingernails willing him to make the right choice when faced with a tempting proposal to bring in some much-needed cash.
This book will absolutely relate to some children and to others it will help to develop empathy. Not only is this a fantastic story but because the text is quite a decent size, the lines are nicely spaced and there are illustrations within the text, children will notice they are eating up the book quite quickly giving them a sense of pride and success that they are reading quite a chunky book!
We highly recommend ‘The Wrong Shoes’ for children aged 8 and older.
