About the complete scheme
‘Race to the Frozen North’ follows Matthew Henson’s journey from a harsh childhood to a life at sea, where he learns to read and write and begins a series of epic polar expeditions. Despite ultimately reaching the North Pole in 1909 through determination and hard work, he initially received little recognition for his achievements, which was only corrected many years later. Take your class on a polar adventure as they follow Matthew Henson's incredible journey!
Within this six-weeks of fully resourced English planning, for Years 3 and 4 (ages 7-9), your class will explore a rich range of grammar techniques, including figurative language, time conjunctions, expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials, the perfect form of verbs, and apostrophes for both singular and plural possession. Pupils will master these concepts through bespoke teaching videos, expertly crafted activities, meaningful oracy opportunities, and brilliantly adapted resources designed for all learners.
Across thirty fully resourced English lessons, children will produce three extended pieces of writing: a free verse poem, a letter, and a piece of journalistic writing.
