'Escape From Pompeii' English Scheme of Work
Welcome to our six-week fully resourced English planning based on Christina Balit’s ‘Escape From Pompeii’. Watch your class engage with the story as they follow a Roman boy’s experience of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79. Our 30 x 1 hour fully resourced English plans are written for Years 3 and 4 (ages 7-9).
During this unit, the children have three extended writing tasks linked to the story:
•Narrative and Free Verse Poetry
•Recount Writing
•Narrative Writing
In addition, many grammar aspects are explicitly covered: expanded noun phrases; pronouns for clarity, cohesion and to avoid repetition; commas after fronted adverbials, conjunctions, organising a paragraph around a theme and punctuating direct speech.
Our fully resourced English planning has been written with teachers’ time in mind! All the resources you need- words banks, scaffolded activities, example texts , whiteboard slides and posters for your Working Wall- are included, ready for you to print out. Our lessons include bespoke teaching videos so you don’t need to spend hours creating or finding your own quality resources: we have done it all for you!
So download and be ready to jump back in time to AD79!
